Types of Slope Protection :
Soil nails are one of the leading methods in slope protection. This technique involves driving steel rods into the ground to reinforce slopes. Soil nails provide an effective solution for improving slope stability, particularly in areas with limited working space or steep gradients.
Soil reinforcement is achieved by driving nails of a specific length into the ground at specific intervals. This treatment results in the formation of a coherent gravitational structure that increases the overall shear strength of the soil and helps prevent potential ground displacement.
Steps in the Soil Nail Method
1. Drilling: Drilling holes according to the design.
2. Installation of Steel Bars: Inserting soil nails into the holes.
3. Grout Injection: Filling the holes with grout to reinforce the structure.
4. Surface Coating: Applying additional protection, such as shotcrete.
Work Procedure :
1. The slope must be cleared of any debris.
2. Survey and mark the points where soil nailing will be performed.
3. Position the equipment at the first point marked by the survey team.
4. Install the rod and drill bit, then adjust the machine to the specified angle and slope.
5. Continue drilling using compressed air connected to the rod and drill bit.
6. The air compressor will supply compressed air to the machine; once drilling is complete, the soil at the drilling point will be expelled due to the compressed air being supplied.
7. Move the drill bit little by little, adjusting according to the soil’s hardness.
8. Once drilling is complete, pull out all the rods along with the drill bit.
9. Insert the prepared rebar into the drilled hole.
